About Us
THE MARK OF EXPERIENCE
For more than 27 years, Laurence Freed has been sourcing veneers
from tropical and temperate countries and supplying customers around
the world.
"Our job is to carefully prepare various qualities of veneer to
meet the needs of end-users." says Mr Freed. "We find the logs,
sort the veneers, and supply what the customer wants."
The company's flexibility, combined with the quality of product,
is a major reason for their success to date and will remain at the
heart of future operations. Major markets include domestic and office
furniture, the automotive trade (especially for Burr veneers) and
the door panel industry. Sliced decorative veneers are the main
part of Freed's business. Logs are brought and converted in the
source country. Laurence frequently travels to concessions and mills
to ensure that they are operating correctly from both environmental
and quality control viewpoints. Freed veneers work closely with
what is probably the largest producer of Walnut Burr in the world.
It is the development of such relationships which keeps Freed Veneers
at the forefront of the veneer trade.
Perhaps more than any other sector of the timber industry, in veneers
it is who you know that counts, as well as what you know. Freed
veneers knows the players in the veneer trade - which is characterised
by a large number of specialist operations - and can find and secure
supplies.
"I am always looking for new veneers," said Mr Freed. "Some of
our customers, especially architects, will contact us with new ideas
or projects for which they want something different, and it's only
by knowing the market so well that we can help them. Our name is
well known, which is very important in the veneer trade. We are
giving people value for money with top service and, above all, quality
veneers."
